The Minnesota Appliance Rebate is up and thriving today. There has been a high interest in the new MN Appliance rebate because it started at 8 am this morning, Monday, March 1, 2010.

Minnesota's website for the appliance rebate is here. Earlier today the website crashed due to extremely interest in the Trade-in & Save Appliance Rebate program.

Additionally, consumers overwhelmed the telephone hotline for the program. The toll free hotline is now working again, but there are long waits expected to speak to representatives.

The Trade-in & Save Appliance Rebate program in Minnesota is funded with over $5 million in federal stimulus funds. The Appliance rebate will enable more than 25,000 Minnesota households to get a $200 rebate for replacing a refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher or clothes washer with a qualifying ENERGY STAR model when the new appliance is purchased from a Minnesota retailer.

Consumers need to hurry though because when the money runs out, the program ends. The Minnesota Department of Commerce estimates that the money will be gone in less than a week.

The following is a list of appliances and their rebate amounts:

* Clothes washers ($200)

* Dishwashers ($150)

* Freezers ($100 with purchase and proof that the old unit has been taken off the grid; $50 for purchases only)

* Refrigerators ($200 with purchase and proof that the old unit has been taken off the grid; $100 for purchase only)

The Minnesota Appliance rebate is expected to to save more than 2.2 kilowatt hours in electricity, almost 44-million gallons of water and more than 4.7 million pounds of carbon each year due to households having more energy efficient appliances.

The Trade-in & Save Appliance Rebate phone hotline is 1-800-657-3710 or you can call 1-877-230-9119.
